beverage manager

The primary responsibility of the Beverage Manager is to oversee and manage the beverage department. This includes managing supporting team members by providing direction and support to ensure successful packouts and transportation of supplies to allow for onsite event execution. Vendor relations, product ordering, and inventory management are additional components of this role. The Beverage Manager will report to the Director of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Play a key role in hiring qualified personnel along with Human Resources
  • Train all team members
  • Provide each employee with full cross training of all departmental tasks
  • Oversee and provide backup support to Beverage and Production Coordinator(s)
  • Prepare personnel weekly schedules to include being available for on call shifts and questions, late evening issues and weekend work, including any hourly staff brought in for event packout assistance
  • Manage labor costs through daily payroll audits and day-to-day management of staff
  • Pinpoint, address, and if necessary, bring personnel issues to Human Resources attention
  • Cultivate a superior team of employees through coaching and mentorship, that fosters a work environment that encourages leadership and empowerment
  • Utilize the appropriate software and employees to effectively accomplish daily tasks, department projects, and event needs
  • Work with operations for cross-departmental changes or updates to processes
  • Communication and constant analyzation of policies and processes along with the Director of Operations
  • Identify tools and equipment to improve efficiencies in the department
  • Department profit and loss tracking and review with management
  • Attend weekly production meetings for AFE and The Revaire
  • Attend bi-weekly meetings with management to discuss department status
  • Negotiate and monitor best contracts (by-the-glass/multiple case rates) with beverage purveyors and distributors
  • Handle inquiries and correspondence from beverage purveyors and distributors
  • Attend industry beverage functions and tastings
  • Place regular beverage orders to maintain proper inventory
  • Maintain updated collateral on all beverage offerings for sales teams and staffing department
  • Update beverage lists as necessary with correct proprietary names, vintages, and other details
  • Work with Marketing and Sales to develop visuals that can be used to help sell our premium beverage packages to A Fare Extraordinaire and The Revaire clients
  • Regularly communicate to sales beverages with great margins
  • Incentivize seasonal specialty beverages to sales to help move sitting product through inventory
  • Maintain pulse of beverage trends to add or update offerings
  • Update beverage pricing with operations as needed to adjust for vendor product changes
  • Complete custom beverage requests from the sales teams
  • Proactively and innovatively think of cost saving and revenue generating streams for the beverage sector
  • Ensure with operations Caterease required items list and linking quantities are accurate
  • Record per event quantities in the Beverage Tracker spreadsheet and upload to Caterease
  • Perform, review, and report on monthly and yearly beverage inventories and review/address issues in real time with management as needed
  • Generate and adjust beverage packing list to pass off to beverage packers
  • Maintain order and sanitation of beverage storage facilities ensuring that beverages are stored at a proper temperature and inventory is rotated using “FIFO” system

skills & Experience

  • Required 2+ years of experience in the restaurant, catering, or hospitality industry
  • Passionate about customer service and the event planning industry
  • Beverage palate and knowledge preferred
  • Excels in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Adept in computer programs
  • Detail oriented
  • Flexible and able to solve problems on the fly
  • Collaborative worker who trusts the expertise of fellow departments
  • Manages time, projects, and deadlines efficiently and independently
  • Direct and intuitive communication skills
  • Effective in presenting and sharing information
